Recipe of the Week: Shrimp Po’ Boys

Shrimp po-boy

Shrimp po-boy inspiration for this week’s recipe.

A New Orleans classic for the home kitchen: crispy fried shrimp, tangy remoulade, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and French bread or a baguette.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb large peeled and deveined shrimp
  • Flour, eggs, buttermilk, panko breadcrumbs
  • Tony Chachere’s seasoning or your favorite Creole seasoning
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Remoulade: mayo, hot sauce, grainy mustard, garlic, pickle relish, horseradish, Worcestershire, smoked paprika, cayenne, parsley
  • Shredded iceberg lettuce, diced tomatoes, and French bread

Method

  1. Mix the remoulade and set it aside.
  2. Dredge shrimp in flour, dip in egg-and-buttermilk, then coat in seasoned panko.
  3. Fry in hot oil until golden, about 1–2 minutes per side.
  4. Drain, split the bread, spread on remoulade, and load with lettuce, tomato, shrimp, and hot sauce.

Bourdain brings the proper sandwich gravitas.

For the famous-sandwich corner, Anthony Bourdain is the correct spiritual presence: no preciousness, no overexplaining, just bread, filling, appetite, and opinion.

This slot can rotate weekly between celebrities eating sandwiches, sandwich-loving public figures, and great sandwich moments from TV, film, and food culture.
